You will learn about the health, care, stabling, and preparation of horses for performance events. You will also learn about your role, and how to work with others in the performance horse industry.

Graduates of this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to be employed as a Sport horse Groom, to build on existing skills and knowledge of equine behaviour and care. This could also be used as a pathway to enter stud farms and stables.

Language Requirements
All applicants (international and domestic) for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language need to provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the programme.

Student's First Day Requirements:
Please bring your Driver's Licence. Stationery requirements: Clipboard, calculator, ruler, scissors, lever arch folders – x 2, A4 Refill Pads – at least 2, Dividers – at least 2 sets.
Pens/pencils/highlighters Please note: Many students find it easier to work on a laptop, but this is not essential. General Clothing Requirements Named = Waterproof coat and leggings.
Suitable working trousers, Work shirts, Work jerseys, 6 pairs working socks, Gumboots, Steel capped boots, Woolly hat and gloves, Sun hat, 2 pairs overalls (blue/cotton).
To satisfactorily complete the NZ Certificate in Equine Skills (Sporthorse Groom) (Level 4) and be awarded the qualification the student must successfully achieve:
A minimum of 70 credits in accordance with the programme schedule for the New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills (Sporthorse Groom) (Level 4).
The student will normally be expected to complete the NZ Certificate in Equine Skills (Sporthorse Groom) (Level 4) full-time over half a year or part time over a year.
